FAQs

I use a variety of resources to make each lesson interactive and educational. In most cases, I will choose a method book for you and supplement with other materials like worksheets and games.
-
For the best virtual learning experience, students will need access to a laptop or tablet to stream lessons, stable internet connection, and of course their practice instrument and books. It is also highly recommended that students have headphones and/or an external microphone for optimal learning environment.

Yes! Topics included in the policy are registration, lesson commitment, tuition structure, and student non-attendance. Students/their parents will review this as part of the onboarding process. Scroll down to see a “quick guide” for MAM policy.

My philosophy for practice revolves around consistency. I teach my students to start with small increments of practice time and gradually increase as lessons continue. All students are expected to practice; however, age is taken into account. All in all, practice is part of the learning process too!

Tuition is calculated based upon scheduled lessons in each calendar year. Then, the cost is divided into the monthly tuition.
-
My teaching style revolves around education, mentorship, and inspiration. I balance the three according to my student’s goals, learning styles, and personalities.

A Scripture passage that has inspired the creation of MAM is Ephesians 5:19- “speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”

I specialize in Gospel music and classical music. I tailor the lesson “pathway” according to what your goals are as a student.

Although I ask that lessons be viewed as weekly “appointments,” I totally understand that life happens! Occasionally, student or teacher might have an emergency and can’t make it to lesson. See policies and procedures (below) to get an idea of how this works.

At this time, we do not participate in ABRSM exams. However, giving students a well-rounded approach that includes ear-training, sight-reading, and theory is a key factor of the goal to “educate” during each lesson.
Policies and Procedures
A studio policy is a communication of what you can expect during your time in a private music studio. It is an amazing communication tool and saves you time in the long run!
The MAM studio policy is kindly intended with the desire for a mutually respectful relationship between teacher and client. It sets everyone up for success.
Listed below is the “quick guide” of our policy before joining.
Registration/Discontinuance
Students may register for lessons at any point in the year. However, due to prior experience, students must agree to a full semester at a time.
Although I hope you continue as a student long term, if you need to discontinue lessons, contact me one month prior to the end of semester (early April or early November), due to filling your time slot with another student.
Non-attendance/Cancellation
Your lesson time is reserved just for you! Because your lesson time is scheduled weekly, I kindly ask that lessons be treated as a weekly appointment! I love seeing students grow consistently. However, life can certainly be unpredictable. For this, I offer one online make-up lesson per semester if you need to cancel your regular time for any reason. Make-up lesson availability will vary according to my personal availability/schedule. Tuition reimbursement is not available for student non-attendance due to having your lessons pre-scheduled.
Sickness policy: In the event of mild illness, online lessons are available in your same time slot instead of using a cancellation!
If there is more than one student cancellation, students can submit a video of the songs for the week, prior to the lesson time, so that I can give feedback based on the videos during your scheduled lesson time. This way, your time can still be used to give a lesson benefit for the week even if you can’t attend!
Teacher absence
In the rare event that I need to cancel a lesson, I will let the parent know and try to reschedule the lesson. If the lesson cannot be rescheduled, the lesson amount will be deducted from the following month’s tuition.

Monthly payments are to be made at or before the first lesson day of each month.
